A buddy of mine has a 1998 1 ton chevy with a 454 in it. When he starts it, it revs up high and then settles back down. He was wondering if this is a normal thing or something wrong.

Does it do it everytime he starts the motor? Also how high does it rev?
Some things to look at:
1. Bad injectors (or injector)
2. Cold start system
3. Problem with cruise control (if it has one)

How high of an idle?? My 97 idles high at first, then goes down. My 89 is the same, just does it a little longer till the fluid warms up.
