All,

I’m having some difficulty with my freshly rebuilt 454 that I put in my '87 K5. Getting this thing to run right has been an ongoing problem. First, let me give everyone some back ground. As mentioned the motor is a 454 bored .60 over. It has the Edelbrock TBI intake, Edelbrock 2162 cam and 049 heads. It has hedman headers with a heated O2 sensor. The fuel pump is also new and a high flow unit. The TB is a high flow unit from R.V. Morris machine. All of the sensors are either new or within a year old. The distributor is less than a year old, the module is a new one from GM, new coil and plug wires. I had Brian at TBI Chips burn my chip as well. No matter what I do, it continues to run rich right off idle and even bogs and stutters some. Here is where it gets crazy. Once the engine was in and running, and I noticed the rich condition, I decided to run the WINALDL program and send the data to Brian. He looked at it and recommended some changes. This is what I ended up with. A 454 throttle body with 350 injectors and an 18 psi spring. Brian also took the data and burned me an updated chip. I installed the chip and the truck does run better overall, but the rich condition has not changed. I downloaded the new data and sent it to Brian as well. I must mention he has done a great job in helping me. He looked at it and said everything looked great and he does not know why it is still rich right off idle. Does anyone have a clue as to what could be causing this? Also, the computer throws no codes whatsoever. I am up for any recommendations as I am lost. Thanks in advance.

not sure why it would be running so rich to put 350 injectors into a 454.

My 350 has 454 tb on it, and is now up to 26 psi fuel to run right.

I think I finally figured out the problem. I wired my IAC up incorrectly. The truck is running a lot better than it was but not 100%. Something somewhere is causining the engine to run at 47 degrees timing. If I try to lower it, the truck won't run at all. I'll post an update once I have that figured that out as well.
