I have seen some threads about a 454 TBI for more CFM (670) I believe on a 350, 383, 400. I want to rebuild my vortech supercharged 350 Lo5 engine. Would this be a good idea to swap TBI's? Does this require conversion parts? I have an aftermaket fuel pump for the charger, so fuel delivery shouldn't be a problem - maybe bigger injectors. I will probably use standard heads. I've read they have a decent volume despite poor design, and i think the boost will overcome most of this. My ultimate goal is about 450ft/lbs between 38k and 44k rpm. Also someone told me 383 TBI's are tricky to fuel. Is this true? My thoughts are the 383 may not be cost effective for me since I started with a charger. I understand the ECM might need tuning but there is a vortech authorized dealer in the Springs (CO). They do a lot of custom setups.

The 454 TBI unit will be a must for a supercharged engine. The 350 TBI just won't flow enough air. You will definately need to have a chip burned for the application. I would also send the injectors out to be clean and flow tested. I sent mine to Witchhunter Performance in Wa. state. http://witchhunter.com/ . If you do this at least now you'll know that you're starting with a good set of injectors and also what the fuel flow is. The thing you have to remember is that they test them at 20 PSI so you'll need to do the conversion to figure out the flow at whatever pressure you end up running. I've just went through this with my new HOT 350 roller engine.
