Just wondering what kind of mpg you guys with 454 tbi are getting? I'm talking one which is stock to mild, not a beefed up torque monster. I have a 350 tbi which gets about 13-16 mpg give or take. Dreaming of upgrading to a tbi 454 some day. From what I've read here I'll need polly motor mounts, 4 core rad, coustum chip, new exhaust, 454 tbi. Let me know if I've left out anything major. One more question, would I be able to use a BBC out of a mid 70's truck & put a tbi compatible intake manifold on it? Or would I need one out of an 87-91 burban?
Thanks!

I have a 2 - 454 TBI trucks. One is a backfitted 1994 1Ton factory 454 TBI engine and 4L80E with factory computer, into a 1979 K5. The other is a stock 1993 454 TBI w/4L80E in a 3/4 t 4x4 Suburban. They both get between 13-15 MPG. (They both have 4:10 difs, K5 has 33's and the Sub has 32's).

My 98 Silverado 2500 4x4 454 Vortec got 13 -15mpg with 4.10's & 4L80E trans. pulling 33" rubber. My 87K5 383 gets 14 -15 pulling 4.56's, 33" rubber and 5 speed OD. But my wife has to be driving, she's the only one that seems capable of doing this on long trips. Must be her size 7 foot compared to my size 10! Don't know what else it could be.

A good firm grip is my idea of gun control!

I have to go along with these guys, my '93 Sub w/454 gets a pretty consistent 14 mpg.

'85 K5, 350, 700r4, np208, 10 bolts, as of 10/2001; wish list is extensive.

Thanks guys! That pretty much makes up my mind. Gonna go with the 454 someday. More power without any real drop in gas milaege. A win win situation!!
