Anyone heard of a counterweight that mounts between the crank of a 454 and a 350 flywheel to balance the 350 FW for use on the BB. My local tranny shop told me about it but i've never heard of it. Urban legend.....maybe!

Do you have any other names for this counterweight. The DIY one says it's for a 383 to 350 flex plate. Would this one balance the 454 using a 350 flywheel.(my kids spilled sprite into my laptop so I no longer have use of my question mark key among others)

i would only use the correct flywheel/flex plate. those units space the flexplate/flywheel out a bit. and if not to carfull under some conditions it could cause clutch or tourqe convertor alignment problems.

but yes thay do work.

are you running auto or stick?

if auto flex plate.

if stick flywheel.

comon mixups . just want to be sure.

new flex plates are under 50 bucks . darn close to what you want to buy and swap in.

new flywheel around 100 bucks.

yes it will work on a 454 also I had one on my yellow truck with the first 454. but the proper flexplate/flywheel would be a better answer

i dont know about that. the real parts have 2 diffrent part # for 400sbc and 454 big block chevy.

and do you realy want to pull it apart again for fun?

well I used the 400sbc version on my 454 with no issues at all. I would think they would be the same between the both of them ????? anyways yoour still better of using the "real deal" than this balance plate it's not as precise and there may issues as mentioned above

Just to be safe I think i'll go with the right flywheel. The older I get the heavier this stuff gets, I don't want to pull the tranny and case out any more than I have to. Thanx for all the input.
