454 vs. 400

Yea I thought it would be best to build on an engine stand. I am trying to figure out some mods that a non mechanic can pull off. Changing parts and stuff out is not a problem with me, it is completely disassembleing something, rebuild it, and putting it back together is my prob. So wha do you think.

So what do you think. I am already looking at Header's like Greg recommended. Anything else?

Not to derail you, but maybe you'd like a Cadillac 500? Check out some threads on that. Lots of torque right off idle. Easy swap into a GM truck.

I kind of have a hard time recomending one or the other, the 454 probably will win in the overall power dept. but the 400 built will be enough to push 44s with the right gears. I don't know what kind of mud you run but in the stuff I do you need an extended rpm range to really do well. So whichever one you build, built it with good light con rods light pistons and good crank.
