A friend of mine has a 91 with a 454TBI/4L80E. He is going to put a early 80's turbo diesel in place of the 454. Will the 6.2 mount up to the 4L80E, will the torque converter need to be changed, and what else will work, or will not work that will be needed to be changed out?? Thanks Tim

The torque converter should work, but the diesel ones are slightly different. The worst part will be hooking up a TPS for the tranny computer. Otherwise, the engine will bolt right in.

or anyone else,
what about the kickdown setup?? or the speedo and tach?? what about all that elec stuff?? Isn't that controled by the engine??

The computer will need to be reprogrammed most probably OR changed out for a 91-93 diesel computer (from a 4L80E). Basically for the transmission computer you will need to keep a throttle position sensor, engine RPM, vehicle speed sensor. The issue will be putting a TPS on the injector pump (they are available), and getting an engine RPM signal that the computer can read.

I understand that the part number for the 91-93 diesel truck controller is 16147609 and the part number for a stock chip 16173828. This would be the standalone transmission controller.
I also read somewhere that the flexplate must be a lockup type flexplate to match the lockup torque convertor on the 4L80E.(need more research on this)
