I have broken my 465/205 figure 8 adapter twice now. the first one was due to being smashed on a rock and the second was torque maybe? i did not use gaskets between the adapter so maybe that was it. I have a built tough skidplate for the adapter; should i make something off of it for a 205 case? when it broke the second time i was climbing a huge rockpile. anyway what can i do to not make it break anymore and anyone make a better adapter/sleeve?

there use to be a guy on ebay now and then. 300 bucks and it was a massive beefy unit he made and sold for the 465/205 adaptor.

You must use the gaskets. They are used as shims more than gaskets. If not the coupler in between the 2 will bind and cause issues.

You need to use the correct thickness gasket because RTV or a gasket that is too thin will break the ears off of the adapter. The adapter housing doesn't simply bolt the two together, it holds the bearing down and centers the output/input shafts as well.

There are figure 8 pattern gaskets out there that are too thin, and using RTV instead of a gasket is a sure way to break the adapter housing. All of the GM 205 adapters (other than the later round pattern 205's) are designed to use a gasket and can't use RTV alone, it WILL break the adapter housing.
