Ok so I just swapped out t-cases just replacing a busted 208 with another one. When I sepparated the two there was a decent amount of gear oil from the trans sitting in the adaptor, but i didn't think anything of it until when I had the new tcase bolted up and after a test drive i noticed a decent gear oil leak from between the adaptor and the tcase. Is there supposed to be gear oil from the trans in the adaptor, or am I just crazy?

It's ok for a little bit of gear lube to be in the adapter.
In order for the adapter to seal against the tranny you must use a gasket of the proper thickness, this also sets the correct preload on the rear output bearing. Without the gasket you can burn up the rear output bearing, crack your adapter & have a leak that will not stop.

I've never heard of that before :eek1:

oh i see what you guys are saying but i never separated the trans from the adaptor. I just swapped the tcase. My leak is between the tcase and the adaptor.

Pretty sure for T-case/adaptor end........there is a large rubber O ring that seat's on the round Circular T-case end..........if that is missing, it can cause oil to leak out.
