I do NOT want a electric winch so now I want to go with pto.
Hydraulic or mecanic does not matter much but hydraulics would be best so I can use it to plow snow and other stuff too.
The first 3 pics are the 465 with pto on the floor since a couple of years.
Then there are some pics of the one I bought recently.
Now I wonder if the second one can be turned the other way so I can have it turning to the rear and have a hydralic pump next to my 205.
Some of the pics are from under the truck, yes I do not wash my truck often.
Thoughts and opinions please

Sorry about the under truck pics :doah:
Not much use are they ;)
The numbers on the pto says:
C 1 - P 430
2
Anyone recognize these things and can give me some advise

Sorry, no advice but I'm interested in the answers.

I believe the PTO covers will bolt on either way so it should be possible to rotate the housing around. The pictures also make it look like the output side and input side of the housing PTO might be symetrical so that "maybe" you could remove the internal components and rotate them as well.

I think this is the exact PTO I have on the crew cab. Take a look and see if there is two spots the shift detent could be installed.

We took the guts out of mine and flipped them end for end so the shaft would point rearward on the truck. Sure looks like the same exact PTO to me.

I'm running mine on the 205. Further back where there is more room.

Shift detent
Could that be the little thing that keeps it in or out of gear
you can see a little of it in pic 6 and a little better in pic 7.
And are you telling me I can put this wherever I want.
If so would I need to change the gears in it to put it on my 205.

And I think I would like to run it from the 465 if it is going to a hydraulic pump.
I do not know but if it is on the 465 it turns the same way always and if it is on the 205 it would go the other way when I put the 465 in reverse.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, shift detent is the little pill and spring setup that hold it in or out of gear. Should be two places for it. One on either side of the mechanism.

As far as gears required for 205 or 465, I'm not sure. Mine came with the 205 and that's where I wanted it. I didn't specifically have a need for one on a 465.

You could be right on the direction of rotation too. Hadn't thought about it much. Might have to rethink mine. Turing a pump backwards.... Not sure if it'd do anything. I had intended on hooking mine to a generator.

some of these do have forward and reverse. you can hook them up to a hydro pump...just like you would if you wanted to run a dump hoist. but this would require a pto driven pump, resivoir, then motor on the winch etc.....tho im not terribly fimiliar with municipal set up, they do set truck up with cetral hydros with the distribution block in the cab i.e 1 lever for the winch in and out, 1 lever for plow up and down, 1 lever for side to side, etc

the other advantage to running it on your trans is if you put it on the NP205 the truck has to be moving for the pto to work...on the 465 it runs of an idler gear...so you can put the trans in neutral and still engage the pto

I thought if it was on the 205 and I put the 205 in N the pto would turn depending on what gear the 465 was in  and the wheels would not turn.

Sorry if my English is
But if you put your 205 in Neutral would the pto gears on the 205 not spin
Idler gear in the 205

i think if the gear in the 205 that would drive the pto is a front or rear output then it would not spin in neutral

i would presume..

i am not sure though!

but i want to know also.

now, i have an 80 k20 it was a plow truck all its life, it is 400 trans and 205 case i am not sure where the pto is on it but it has to be on the 205 case,

it also had a salt spreader

maybe i could look under it and find out somethin that may help here?

no?

i hav had a few 1 ton chevy duallies mostly 67 and 68 years and all dump bed with 420 or 465 trans and so always pto on the trans itself,

so always worked when idling

of course.

so..

I think the 205 has the gear riding on the input gear. Sure seems it is engaged while your moving.

I've had thoughts of using it for a snow plow hydraulics. Not sure how the plows are set up on these trucks.

The pto for a 205 is different then the pto for a 465.
The 465 pto spins in 1 direction only. I have heard there are mutable direction 465 ptos but I have yet to see one.
A pto 465 or 205 IS asymmetric you can take it a part and change what direction it is pointing. On the 205 good luck getting the speed o cable to fit if you have it pointing out the rear."ask me how I know"
VERY IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER the 465 pto idler gear is a constant mesh gear you MUST have some back lash between the gears this accomplished by stacking gaskets if you don't do this and just silicone it on bad things will happen.
Also the 205 pto runs of the idler gear in the t case and speed and direction is set by the trans. T case can be in N and pto still works.
Hope some of this helps spent many of nights looking at different ptos almost went hydraulic myself but decided on a PTO winch.

A good drivetrain shop can tell you what shim you will need for what ever you mount it to. The pto on the 205 will work in neutral and spin according to the gear of the trans. If you put it on the 205, you will have reverse for the winch with the trans.
