Hey guys

Im having some difficulty with my manual swap. First of all i havent found many decent auto to manual swap threads so if you know any feel free to throw them out here...the one thats a ck5 write up is more or less incomplete and looks like it was done in the 1800s lol.

The transmission hump...mine is clearly spot welded in and so far ive found most of the welds to be 2.5" apart. Is the portion closes the engine bay spot welded all the way around? That means i have to take the dash out to drill straight?

Also does the indented portion get cutout for the shifter? Any recommendations on a boot for that?

The indent is for the shifter hole.

Never seen seen a hump spot welded in, only bolted or glued with seam sealer stuff.

Ok so i can blow that out once i get the damn thing out.

Yeah ive heard of a few people saying theres was spot welded in. Theres no doubt thats what im dealing with. Whatever glue is under it was un-phased by a blow torch.

Yeah thats the one I read. Unfortunately its not very specific as far as tunnel hump removal goes.

Good news is I got the cover out. It was a beoch but I got it with the help of a 90 degree drill. I still need to pull the last 2 bellhousing bolts and unbolt the convertor and ill be ready to pull the 700r4.

I pulled the top off the 465...should make it easier to get in.

Lmc or the likes will have a shifter boot

didn't need to do that . and great way for junk or parts to drop in and you not know it and trash it .

also can be tricky getting forks lined up and work all the gears .

should of just poped shifter handle and stuffed rag in hole.

Haha yeah I can see that now. Originally I took it off to inspect everything so Ive had it off. Ill wrap it up with something when I put it in. The transmission that is lol.

I found the tranny needs to be halfway into reverse for the cap to come off...

I got the converter bolts out. Ive heard that the converter needs to be pushed back because its indexed on the crankshaft? I pried a bit but no luck...

I've never had a GM converter that was indexed, but I haven't worked on all of them!

I always pushed the converter back to get clearance between the motor and converter. If you bump the converter hard enough when you pull everything apart, it can break the pump. In worst case scenario i have had to pull the motor with the converter stuck to the flex plate. Just easy does it.

In some cases, there is no/almost no play. The converter may not move back.
With all the bolts out, will the converter rotate free of the flex plate?
