Ok, rebuilt my 465 and when I go to put the top cover back on, its a PITA to go back on. I finally got it to drop down into position, but when I did its like the trans just locks down and wont turn in any gear. It will free wheel in neutral but nothing else......wtf......

The top cover has, what, 3 shift forks attached to it? You need all three to engage their respective shift collars.

One of yours are off.

Take the cover back off and look at it, you'll see what I mean

yeh had the shifter halfway into reverse and I swear all 3 were lining up, only one that could POSSIBLY be off was reverse........Im bout ready to chunk the bastard in the trash and stick my 400 back in......Ah well....I'll sleep on it and throw it in the trash in the morning.

The reverse collar is very easy to mis-align. Just pull the cover and try again...

Just went through this a couple of days ago. Took a few breaks I was so frustrated. It will pop right back on when everything is lined up right. My rails were not lined up when I put the shifter back on so it felt like it was in reverse but it wasnt. Hang in there.

well put it back on again this am and now 1st 2nd and reverse engage and function, 3rd and 4th still lock down......:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

alrighty........got the top on, shifts into everything 1st, 2nd, reverse are fine, 3rd and 4th take a heckuva lotta effort to spin.....hoping its just cause it has no oil in it......
