I'm planning for the next work after I finish my body work. My 1977 K5 has a 468Big Block that seems to run fine. Previous owner installed electric fuel pump. While I appreciate the New Green Deal approved Big Block I am eager to swap down to the 350 just because it will be a NEW crate motor that I get to install and maintain from new myself. Also want to go back to mechanical fuel pump (easier and cheaper to fix)

Axles are D60 and 14Bolt with 4.10 gears. 700R4 transmission and NP 205 Xfer case.

Would the 350 suffice to power this rig? 95% Daily Driver

I guess it will depend on what you expect it to do

it will get slightly better mileage, if tuned properly

it probably won’t do wheel stands or 4 wheel burnouts

Let’s hear more about the crate engine. What HP?

Also did not see the tire height mentioned

Mine is 350/465/4.10s/37s
350 is rated 420hp & 406 lb/ft
It works well enough despite the elevation. The lower altitude where you are will help power a bit

the engine is looking to have about 410 horsepower and about the engine is looking to have about 410 horsepower and about 400ftlb of torque. Carburetor with a mechanical fuel pump.

I’d say, go with the 350. If it’s lacking some, you can always entertain going to 4.56 gears

I think the 350 will be fine, I ran a 350 w/th400 and same gear+axle setup for a little while, however, that 700r4 might not like it. I would think about regearing if I were you. You have OD, so stepping up in gear size should help that little guy last a while longer, also look at getting (if you don't already have one) a nice trans cooler.

It seems to have a nice trans cooler and a oil cooler.

I plan to run the 700R4 until it grenades. I want a Th400 and I'm shopping for a viable candidate. OD is a nice feature but not required for a vehicle with this purpose.

700 has a lower 1st gear than the th400. Th400 needs more hp to turn it.
Keep those in mind when choosing components.

I am looking at this engine:

And this transmission:

The engine I have now seems to be fine (468ci BB Chevy and a 700R4) but I am going to remove the engine to complete repairs to the engine bay. I'll need a new driveshaft, tailpiece to Mount the TH400 and probably a new engine cross member.

Thoughts?
