a buddy of mine is building a rat rod. he has a chance to get a 2wd 480le for $300. question is does anyone offer a kit to work with a non computer rig? i told him a 700r4 might be a better choice if the swap kit is too many$$$$$ :dunno:

Try TransGo, I believe they offer kits to run it in a non-comp application.

Or look for a factory diesel truck with a non-computer controlled 6.2/6.5L and the 4L80E. You can get the stand alone transmission computer out of that model (1991 is a good year for them) along with the wiring.

Actualy TransGo makes a Full Manual Kit for the 4L80E that is about $250.00 and there are about seven different aftermarket computers available $800 to $1200. I think the best are the CompuShift ($1200) and the TCI ($900) and I would stay away from the Jet unit. I have a TCI that I would sell.

he did mention it was from a diesel

The newer computer controlled diesels will have the controller intergrated into the engine computer.

He'll need to have the diesel controller re-programmed for a gasoline engine, or it'll shift like it was a diesel engine.

you need 4 things to run it. tps signal , map signal , raw rpm signal, and coolent temp signal. these will tell it how much load is on the motor and also also give it points of mesure to shift by. hope this helps. if he was doing a tbi motor setup you can get a tbi 4l80 standalone harness for 400 from www.howell-efi.com hope this helps.
