I've been thinking lately that my shackle angle is almost 30* negative of what it should be in the front. Its my DD with no crossover so I really dont wanna swap in 56's or 52's but I've gotten to thinking that if I could find a 49 or 50in main spring it would set my shackle angle perfect and give me a little softer of a ride.

Has anyone ever looked into this idea? Are there any oem springs that are around that length? I'm guessing I'm looking at having some custom main springs made and hybrid'ing my pack into them?

Thoughts?

What about moving the rear hanger to improve angle (still using your existing springs)?

I believe BDS has a tech page with spring dims and center pin locations.

I've got longer shackles. I was looking to get softer springs anyway. Plus I just built my first spring packs and had fun doing it. I'd rather not redrill those shackle hangers. I'm afraid I wont be able to mount both sides exactly the same.

BDS a spring company?

Yes BDS is a spring company, I used their lift springs for some time and was impressed.

The effective spring rate and the ride quality that you get out of a set of springs is based largely on the shackle angle.

Moving the front, upper shackle mount forward on the frame (like most people do when they swap to 52's) and using longer shackles (long enough to keep your current ride height, 6-8" long shackles probably) will drop your effective spring rate and give you better ride and flex.

This I understand. The point I'm trying to make is that 49 or 50in springs would make my factory shackle mounts copasetic.

So I live like 15mins from a professional spring place and when i was there picking up pack clamps I was talking to the guy about this. He said to have the main leaf made 2 or 3 inches longer and arched to match the rest of the 4in lift pack it would only be like $200 for both sides. I'm thinking about doing it. Sorta like a step in between crappy stock length springs and 52's.

doesn't sound like a terrible idea. It will ride MUCH better as long as he doesn't go too high on teh spring rate. Its easier than knockin out rivits, moving hanger and redrilling holes...

btw, i ran 52s on stock steering for months without real issue. 7" shackles and the 3rd hole from the front on my b52s was perfect.
