490 big block????

490 cubes would represent a stroked 454 that had not been bored +.030" which adds another 6 cubic inches to the displacement of that combo.

496's are the new replacements for the Merc 502's in the marine industry.. i've only run across one pair so far....

this guy is offering me a 490 BBC for 200 bucks but it needs a carb

thats a rediculous price for any BB... i would think it needs more than a carb... i'd jump on it...

Jump on that deal. Any rebuildable BBC is well worth $200.00 in my honest opinion. :deal:

it is my friends grandpa it has been rebulit and stroked

Ok, a +.030 4.250" bore created a 4.280" finished bore diameter combined with a 4.250" stroke makes 489.1 cid

bore x bore x stroke x .7854 x # of cylinders = (8) = 489.1

I reckon it's a 490 Rat...buy it !

if it is a rebuilt stroker motor, BUY IT. I'd be weary if he claims its not a stroker motor. People who don't know what they have are great when YOU know what they have, but when neither really knows, it can spell disaster.
