I contacted rough country about their 4in lift kit, and asked about the application for a diesel (which weighs as much as a chevy big block) and he said his kit wouldnt work with my truck. that it was only for small block engines.

anyone here know of a 4in lift kit for the diesel blazers???

I know tuff country sells a 4" ez ride and a 4" HD kit, so you might want to look into them.

i put a rancho 4inch on my m1008 and it sagged with the 6.2 pretty bad that a 2inch block would work on the rear.....i dont offroad with it tho but on the highway it drives real nice.... all i did was the front for now, i didnt get to doing the rear.......

Don't think you want Rough country anyways LOL. Very rough ride they say

I ran the 4" Rough Country lift on my K5 with the 6.2. Worked fine. Also ran 4" Tuff Country spring up front with no issues. As for the 6.2 weight it is lighter than a big block and a little bit heavier then a small block.

having run both, would you lean one way or the other? if i were to get the ruff country, i would upgrade to the nitrogen shocks.

I would run the Tuff Country or BDS springs. They have the softest spring rate and ride nice and smooth. If I was to buy now I would go with the BDS springs as they come with a no questions asked lifetime warranty.

sweet 8lbs 4oz tiny baby jesus, the 4in bds kit is $1200.00 :eek1:

the HD tuff country kit for $530.00 is a whole lot easier to swallow, even if it is a rear block kit ($900.00 for a full spring kit). Most of my driving is on the road, or light (by yall's standards VERY light) trail driving so that isnt that much of a big deal.

Now if i were to get the lift kit with rear blocks, i could always order the springs later right? and put those in when the money was there? the major thing here is my front springs are worn out, but i think the rears are ok, i just figured with a 23 year old truck, id replace all the springs together. I could also look at doing a shackle flip on the rear to get rid of the blocks.

am i on the right train of thought here?

also, when ordering, if im concerned about the weight handling ability of the kit, should i order the 3/4 ton kit? even though im pretty sure my truck is a 1/2 ton. ive heard either way with the military trucks, but with the 10 bolt axles, im assuming its a 1/2 ton.

would there be a fitment problem with the 3/4 ton kit on the 1/2 ton truck? or are the springs the same, and its the hardware thats different? as i sit here thinking, these are probably questions for the manufacturer eh?

You want a half ton lift. Your M1009 is just a regular half ton Blazer with the heaviest springs GM offered for a half ton. I think ordering a civilian K5 with the snowplow and towing packages would get you the same springs. The military just rated the CUCV's by their actual weight ratings and not their "traditional" names (ie half ton and 1 ton when today's 1 tons can haul/tow what a 2 ton truck or better was needed for 30 years ago).

Did Tuff Country ever get back with you? Several of the guys over on SteelSoldiers.com have run the Tuff Country HD springs under their pickups. That's the way I'm leaning for Big Ugly and would probably go if I had a M1009. In the rear I'll do a shackle flip.
For shocks I'll run the Rough Country/Heckethorn Nitro 9000's. Had them on two different trucks now and love them. Can't beat their performance without paying twice what they go for.

nope, no word from tuff country just yet.

but so far it looks like the best setup for me is the HD tuff country kit with rear blocks. use the rear blocks as door stops and do the shackle flip instead. and round it out with the ruff country nitro 9000 shocks.

it will be a while before i buy, as im going out to buy my transmission and t-case tomorrow. all this AND ive got to replace my power steering pump lol. luckily i already have that. if you cant tell ive been neglecting a few things with the truck for a while.

On my 6.2 Blazer I've run 4" Skyjacker Softride front springs and now 4" Tuff Country HD springs. I believe the Tuff Country "HD" springs have about the same spring rates as the Skyjackers did.

In any case, the 6.2 does not weigh enough more than a small blocks to really make any difference. Adding a bumper and winch on the front of a small block truck is probably the same weight difference that the 6.2 represents.

The reason I chose the HD versions was not only because of the diesel, but because I also have a custom front bumper and winch....plus the Tuff Country EZ-ride and HD versions are exactly the same except for the addition of an extra bottom overload leaf and all for the same price.

Likely the original person you talked to stated that the lift wouldn't work because they were thinking of the Cummins/Powerstroke/Duramax trucks in which the diesel engine weights substantially more.
