So the tranny in my 99 Hoe slips pretty bad. Stupid b/l with no lower shroud doesn't cool very well at low speeds, combined with 40s and stock gearing, surprised it lasted this long. According to car-part and Hollander, 98-00 only fits. What is the differences in all the other years? 3 years doesn't leave very many choices. The newer trucks are practically a baker's dozen, but doesn't say why it won't work. No local yards have any, and leery getting one off c-list. I'd swap to a 4L80, but that would run more than finding the 4L60.....

98-2000 uses the removable bellhousing and 298MM converter and pump dimensions as well as a 6 bolt tail, the bell fits the 5.7 non LS engines. The later trans uses a 300mm converter and LS engine bell and pump dimensions. These will not interchange. The 97 and earlier is a one piece case with 4 bolt tail so it wont swap either. 40's and stock gearing (3.42 or 3.73) will kill any 4L60E if driven in overdrive, if you plan to stay with that combo use Velcro on the bellhousing instead of bolts, it will save a lot of time.

I have a buddy that bought one out of a 99 OBS suburban that was wrecked. It was a brand new dealer installed transmission before the wreck . He bought it for a 96 z71 and didn't use it because shop said it wouldn't work. He has 450 bucks in it and would love to get rid of it ,still has transfer case bolted to it.

It's on 38.5 boggers right now. The 40s is what one of the previous owners were running, It is beyond a turd with 38s and 3.73s. Really makes me miss my big block. Not sure I can post pics....
