I am looking for a used replacement 4L60e transmission as a short term solution for my '94 1/2 ton 2wd truck w/4.3ltr V-6, what i am running into here recently, is i am finding a few transmissions from other vehicles, say like a '95 Astro van, or an S-10 pick-up, all i would have thought originally to be a fine replacement, only to find out from a few people, and a transmission shop, that i CANNOT get one with this little stamped code on the front pump reading "PWM" or something like that...

Mine, that came out of the truck, does NOT have this code, and therfore, i am being told i must replace the trans with one of the same,, the ones WITH PWM, will not communicate with the computer correctly or something...

Does anybody have any first hand experience with this or know what the heck i am trying to type here

Anything i can do to easily "modify" one of these PWM coded trans to work in this '94? i was told it was a switch-over year starting in about '95 where some vehicles had them, and some didn't. so it's starting to sound as if not ALL 4L60e's are the same. I knew about differences in V-6 and V-8 units, but this is new to me.

any advise? info on this?

Thanks all :)

You will need to stick with a 1993-1994 model for an exact interchange. The TCC system in the later models has different wiring harness and valve body to control lockup function.

Ahh the good ol Pulse Width Modulation. It's GMs way of softening the TCC apply. Like he said, 94 and earlier don't have it. 1995 does but only 1995 transmission can go in 1995 cars. 96 and later have it. Then you get into the 2 piece cases.

i got it all sorted out, just had a reputable shop in town rebuild/replace the one i broke, turns out the planetaries broke in the original, and cracked the shell/drum it rides around ( i think) been alittle bit already since they showed me the parts, but it was definately a mess.

tell ya what though, i think i MUCH prefer the whole "plug & play" model 4L60e over the "needs adjusting" 700r4
