I've decided that I want to keep on eye on my tranny fluid temp and I got to wondering, is the 4l60e is already reporting its temp to the PCM?

If not, how do you guys normally plump a sensor? Just tap into the cooling lines? Pressure side I assume, right?

It is already reporting. If you want to run a sensor I use the pressure test port. It will fluctuate a lot more than a pan sensor as it is the hottest fluid you will see, not the average like the pan.

If it's already reporting I should be able to read that through the OBDII port, yeah?

I looked up where the pressure port was and that looks easy enough. I guess if I go with an aftermarket gauge then I'll need to sensor to go with it. Initially I was thinking I could get the info from the PCM to the gauge but it makes more sense the other way.

They make gauges that access the info from the OBDII spout and you can monitor a lot of info from the engine. I think Dash Hawk was one of them, haven't looked into this for a while. It might be a good way to get the info of a dash full of gauges in one instrument.

I run two. One off the body and one off the pan. I then run the sensors to a switch that I can alternate between at the gauge. That way I can see what pan temp is and what hot is. When my oil cooler fans kick on I have a small led that lights up to show me the fan is working and I can monitor the temps to see that it is cooling effectively.
