4L60E problem

Before I pull this thing back out I wanted to see if you guys had any ideas on a problem we're having with a 4l60e in a 2002 GMC.

We pulled it out to replace the flywheel bolts, and while it was out we decided to put a transgo shift kit in it. I put the kit in, following the directions carefully. Everything was simple any pretty straight forward. Get the trans back in the truck and put fluid in it. After putting 4 quarts in it it read above full on the dipstick. The trans was drained, but the converter wasnt completely drained.

Truck will not go into gear. Gear selector illuminates, truck increases RPM, but no movement. I pulled the cooler line and fired it up. Nothing. Figured it might just be low, so I put a few more quarts in. Put it back in gear. Nothing. Let it run a little bit to see if fluid will circulate. Nothing. Pull the cooler lines again, nothing. Look under the truck while its running, it starts puking fluid out of the vent. Fluid on dipstick is high, like the dipstick tube is filling up. Trans pan is cool to the touch. Attempted to remove the drain bolt to see if we could drain some fluid but the drain bolt was seized. Any ideas?

Cliffs: Installed shift kit, trans wont run. Pump doesnt seem to be sending fluid to the cooler. Trans is puking fluid out of the breather when in gear. Dipstick is showing over full when the trans should have 10 quarts in it at the most.

Sounds like the converter isn't seated all the way on the pump.

simple test to see if seated in pump is check fluid leval . then note it. fire up and see if leval changes. if no then 1 of 2 things. blown pump or not seated.

and bad news on both most of the time as if pressed in and not seated can break the drive dogs on the pump and = reman pump.

I was not present for the trans install, but they said they didn't pull the trans to the engine with the bolts, so I'm assuming the pump is in working order. For now. We're dropping the pan now, the transgo rep says it's common for people to put the snap ring in the wrong place when changing the boost valve. It will blow the ring down and cause the pump to make no pressure. The filter also looks like it may have come loose. Would low pressure cause the trans to turn the tires forward with low line pressure? It occasionally would engage the tires in the forward direction while in reverse when it was on jackstands.

If you don't find the boost valve in the pan when you pull it or the filter hasn't fallen out of the pump, I would suspect pump failure. Hope it is something simple for you!

Boost valve was in place, filter was in the pan. Reinstalled filter, still nothing. Got momentary movement of the rear tire in the forward direction when the shifter was in reverse, after shifting out of reverse we got nothing. No fluid to the cooler. I'm beginning to suspect they damaged the pump on install. I dont know what else it could be.

pull tranny.

pull conv out .

take pen light and look in side for 2 dog's / theeth for the pump . should be 180* apart from one n other.

if broken you will see them not sitting perfectly.

Pump rotor was broken. Pump looks to be in good shape. Rotor kit should be ordered tomorrow.

The only thing I could find on an alignment tool was a band clamp to align the cases. Is this the tool you're speaking of? A friend can flush the converter. Thanks for all of the information.
