Okay guys I need some insight. I have a 2003 5.3 with a 4l60e. what adapter do I need to mate it up to a 1989 np 241? Advanced Adapters has one with VSS which is what I need but I do not know if that one would mate up and sit in the correct position.

You can just change the tc tail cover to a vss unit like this member did...:waytogo:

You don't need the advance adapter, the NP241 will bolt right up to the factory adapter the 4l60e comes with. You need a 90-91 241 Vss housing, for Vss provisions. This is the cheapest and in my opinion best way to do it.

The only difference is with the sensor in the transfer case you will need a 4 low switch. This sends a ground signal to the PCM to tell it its in 4 low, so it doesn't think the trans is slipping due to gear reduction. With a sensor between the trans and tcase(advance adapter) there is no need for said switch because the sensor is always reading the true output shaft speed.

BTW "Jeff in co" is the man! He hooked me up with the hard to find Vss housing!

Max is correct it bolts right up no adapter needed. I have the same setup in my garage and the 241 slides in perfectly.

Find a 90 or 91 241 with the VSS and sell the 89 case. The 89 case with the mech speedo is pretty sought after and hard to find...

As for the rest, it just bolts up as already mentioned. My 90 241 bolted right up to the '06 4L60e I just swapped in. Clocking is correct too.
