I found a local guy selling a rebuild 4l80 with harness and deisel controller for $650. It's out of a 91 van, I'm curious how good the 91s where?? Heard alot of them going bad, and isn't a good core to rebuild, something about the later model innards are a better design or something.

Also what else would I need to run this?? Or is everything already there?
 
The trans is fine, the wiring harness and pigtail are junk. Basically the wiring socket leaks tranny fluid into it and shorts it out. You'll need, iirc, a '93 up pigtail for the chassis harness and the internal harness to remedy the problem.
That's what's on mine.
 
Should be able to get one of those easy enough. Any mods to the TBI for the TPS or any other sensors????
 
Might have my 454 sold, so if that is the case then porlby just get an ECM off a truck that has the 350/4l80 combo, those are starting to show up in yards now....havta wait and see what happens....
 
Would I have to do anything to this trans to make it work right with a gas over deisel?? Want to get one, this is close and rebuilt, but dont' want to get it if it's not gonna work right....
 
I found out today that little yellow buses (GM diesel) are another source for the diesel 4l80e controllers.
 
The tranny that I'm looking at comes with that ECM,but not sure if
i just hook it up and go or what....
 
As long as the the vehicle it's out of had mechanical injection (up to '94 I think) you should have what you need.
