I have a few questions regarding installing my 1995 4L80 2 wheel drive tranny in my 72 GM short box, with a carbuerated 454. my first question is : will the stand alone control module out of the 91-93 diesels that I've heard guys are using for this type of swap, work on my tranny? .. does any one have any straight forward info on what will be involved in this installation, regarding wiring and what sensors I will need to? how do I compensate for the lack of having a TPS? , and if anybody has done this, would you be able to tell me how this tranny would work with the 3:73 posi I have in my truck currently? .. if anybody has any input to share, feel free, its greatly appreciated. Thanks alot guys

What size tire do you plan to run?

3.73s with OD sounds like it's going to be really low RPMs.

The diesel control module will work, but they're kinda hard to find these days.

The trans will already have a vehicle speed sensor (VSS) on it, so all you'd need is the harness, control module, and TPS. If you can find a diesel control module see if you can get the OEM TPS with it, then rig it up to your carb linkage.

As an alternative, you could go aftermarket if you've got the cash. I've got a Compushift setup I bought used from a member here a while back, but I haven't got around to that project yet (gonna swap my 700R4 for a 4L80E in my diesel pickup). There's another option that is cheaper and people seem to like also called the Little Black Box by Rossler.

thanks , that helps alot. I actually have a 92 diesel here. The trans is no good it, but it has the module. and I have the tps off the diesel that came out of it, so i'll see about rigging it up somehow. my only concern was the the truck is a 4 wheel drive unit , and my trans , as I said, is out of a 2 wheel drive . I don't know if it makes any difference or not? .. And to answer the first guys question , when I had the 700r4 in it originalLy, I was running 275 60 15's , and in overdrive it was Just about perfect

try this 1 sensor hookup and you can control a lot with it .

and best 25 bucks you will spend on info for 4l80-e to 4wd install on stuff . got to be a paid member to see all the pics. but just reading will get you tons of info alone.

2wd tranny has oil feed plug on the back of the tranny case that needs to be swaped to 4wd plug . search my screen name in the 4l80 thread i linked . i posted the part # from the dealer.

the rossler Little Black box is the cats ass.

I rode in a '72-ish pickup with a twin turbo smallblock and a 2wd 4L80-e with a little black box. Ya do it. it electronically makes it a full manual valvebody. no messing around. super easy to hook up. just supply power and ground to the box. This truck would light up 1st though 3rd.
