Hey all, Im again looking at swapping the TH400 out of my truck in favor of the 4L80E, albeit with a full manual valvebody.

My question is, what is involved in using a 2wd transmission in the 4wd application?? From what ive read the only real difference seems to be the different lengths of the output shafts. am i wrong here? will the 241 adaptor bolt up to the 2wd case with some modifications to the shaft? im looking to hook up the NP208 i have, and if at all possible keep my stock driveshafts, although from what ive read ill need to move the crossmember back 1.5", move the brackets for the transmission linkcage, and something about lengthening the shift linkage for the TC, and some torsion bar????

The 4wd transmissions are rare in these parts, and i havent looked at craigslist, but i called a local scrap yard and they want $850 for a used one. The 2wd trannies seem easier to find, so i was just wondering if they were a viable option.

Thanks in advance.

Subscribed... Been wanting to do the same thing on my ccab 4x4. What info have you found on the manual valvebody??? Who does it? , parts, etc...

Someone I'm sure will answer if you can simply have the output cut down to make it work. Probably dependent on how far the output is splined. Last time I checked with a local trans place, the 4WD output shaft was only $75, which seemed really reasonable to me, compared to what the 4L80E's typically sell for.

th400 is 2" shorter than 4l80 basicly. so stock drive shafts is not a option.

and 2wd or 4wd dosnt matter to tranny case for adaptor.

2wd and 4wd and motor home use diffrent shafts. motor home is the best for custom stuff as full slined. cut to length needed.

and 2wd needs the oil plug swaped out on the 3 oclock position with the tail housing off. 4wd needs a solid plug. 2wd has pin hole to lube the bearing in the tail housing.

and why a weaker 208 find a 241 minimum.

and lots of good 4l80 info here....http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=166233&highlight=4l80

TCI and Art Carr make manual valvebodys. TCI #376015 and Art Carr #17026, Art Carr being little cheaper. Both are reverse pattern.

TCI features tc lock-up on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear, and full engine braking (#37610 does not have engine braking)

Art Carr has engine braking on all gears. Tc lock-up can be achieved by two ways; only on 4th gear automatically when engaged, or by manually on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th with a switch.

I'm guessing that TCI has lock-up feature with separate switch, too.

I'm going to use Art Carr, because I'm getting Art Carr shifter (#17072) too, so they come in same order.

Oh yeah, those pn's are for TH700.
