Swapping a 2015 L96 into my 91 suburban but retaining the stock 4l80e. It shifts well and previous owner claims rebuilt recently which I am inclined to believe with how solid it feels.

To retain this tranny with my swap I have to swap out the internal harness with the 93+ style that is easily acquired on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009GNB05Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?smid=A2QOROTAURQN0I&psc=1

The question I have is since I am in there should I be doing a kit like https://globaltransmissionparts.com...MIvN-N3vb33AIVFsZkCh1V5ATjEAQYAiABEgIjg_D_BwE ?

It needs a pan gasket anyway and I have to pull pan to put in the harness so I was going to put a new filter in. To me is that kit a might as well sort of thing? With the harness being $50 and the filter/gasket being about $20 on Rockauto I am inclined to replace everything for not much more.

Let me know your guys thoughts on this. Thank you.

I usually like to replace as much as I can when I’m in somewhere, but in your case being that it is working great and possibly rebuilt recently, I would lean towards (if it ain’t broke don’t fix it). If a sensor or solenoid goes bad down the road it’s not hard to drop the pan.

If you are not replacing the stock pan you might want to look at installing a drain plug to help avoid messes in the future. There should be a spot for it already.

I got the transmission out of the vehicle today. Rebuild tag on the TC says 3/16/16... I’m thinking I am just gunna do the internal harness and call it good. Same guy that claimed rebuilt also claimed it only had 7k on it since the rebuild... Maybe he is right on that one account too! Thanks for the replies though guys, and I will definitely be installing a drain plug pan along with a temp gauge.
