4L80E behind a Vortec V6?

How common is this setup?

I found it odd and thought 4L80's belong to V8s and larger motors. Anyway, bought the transmission for $400, it is the newer version and I just jumped on it.

I just can't stop asking myself why this transmission with a V6. Y'all seen this before?

Dunno. The motor and transmission was already out and sitting on the ground at a salvage yard. It also had a drivers drop NP241 bolted to it, which I also took home with me. So I would guess it used to be in a S-10 or something.

I was gonna guess a van of some sort.. but 4x4? Did they ever put a v6 in a 2500?

Local yard here had a couple vans that had that combo. But, you could order a 3/4 or 1 ton with a V-6. If you did you got some rebate or something. Why you would order a heavy truck with a 6 is beyond me....

sure its 4l80 not a newer 4l60-e 6 bolt tail housing that looks like a 4l80

It's definitely a 4L80E, it's in my garage. If it weren't, I woulda never bought it.

Before I bought my current Astro, I looked at a 94 GMC Vandura 2500 with a 4.3 V6. Still had the 4l60e in it, but it was a 3/4 ton van.
