My apologies if there's already a thousand threads on this. Please direct me to one if that's the case.
I'm building a 406 for my 91 Suburban. 406 will be 5500 redline, heads, cam, headers, RPM intake w/ TBI adaptor. Considering the 50mm TBI, and the tuning that it will take to make that happen. If the PCM didn't control the trans (pre 96 4L80E) I'd likely just put a 4bbl on it. So here's my question...
Can the factory PCM control the trans and spark advance without the TBI unit?
I'm pretty confident I could adapt a 0-5 vdc TPS signal to a carb and retain the MAP sensor if the PCM needs it. Yep, I figure it will likely trip a CEL. But seriously can and/or has it been done?
I'm aware that there are stand alone trans controllers and Holley has an EFI unit w/ trans control. And am aware that the trans can go full manual with external switches controlling the solenoids.
I'm trying to do this on the cheap. Not always the best way to go I know.
91 V2500, 4.56 & 35's, daily drive, occasional trails and towing.
PCM is 16147060 w/ AWBP bin.
Thanks in advance,
Hack

I’m rusty in this area but I remember pulling a 6.2 4l80e harness and computer quite some time ago for a situation very similar to yours. Might be the oem option you’re looking for:

I think I understand where you're going with that. On the diesel 6.2 there were less engine controls or inputs so the computer basically only ran the trans?

As little as I know that’s the basic direction to look for an oem application.

1991 V2500 Suburban or V3500 cab chassis/ crewcab with a 6.2L diesel and 4L80E has the stand alone controller and wiring harness to run the 4L80E. It is a one year only deal for a direct fit in a squarebody.

92-93 GMT400 6.2L K2500 and K3500 trucks/ Suburban may also have a harness and computer that could work as well. 1994 and later trucks went to the PMD computer controls on the diesel engine.
