What is the major differences in the two trans's if any? I would assume the torque converter is different but other than that is their any others?

I'd bet the only other major difference, external to the trans, is going to be how the PCM is calibrated for the diesel, similar to how the TH400's were, shifting fairly early compared to gassers.

I'm sure there are TONS of smaller internal differences (valve sizes, clutches, roller vs flat bushings, etc)

I have 4L80E out of 6.5 in my blazer. The only difference was the torque converter. However the torque converter will bolt up. My motor makes gobs of torque down low so I thought I would experiment with that converter before spending 500 bucks for a new one. The diesel converter put my engine right in its powerband. It is awesome.

The diesel version comes with it's own stand alone "computer" as there isn't an ECM for diesels. IIRC the '91 Suburban is the only diesel that came with a 4L80E tranny.

What are you using for what? Diesel tranny in a gasser or a gas tranny with a diesel engine?

diesel in a 97 3/4 ton 4x4 my bro has gone through 2 of them already. he has owned the truck since new and doesn't beat on it. I have no clue why the other ones even gave out?
