Rebuilt $2600 estimated w/ install

GM $2000 +cost of Torque Converter and misc. stuff and install myself

crap i need to get my 4l80e rebuilt, hope mine doesnt cost that much

i just finished helping a friend put a GM Reman 4L60E in his 94, i was quite amazed at the quality of that vs the local rebuilders. it was also only $200 more than a local guy doing it. it even came almost full of fluid, only needed 3 quarts

here's something else to consider:

A- GM Reman comes with 3 year 100K mile warrenty

B- local rebuild comes with 1 year X? warrenty

the local guy says there are a few items that he addresses that are in his opinion inadaqute coming from GM.

I found a local reputable shop that will give me lifetime warrenty so I am driving around in third till it goes too.

the gm trans are no better than stock if you can find/trust a local/regional shop get a strong rebuilt with good aftermarket pieces
and what about jasper/worldwide/accurate the production rebuilder guys ?
how do they compare down in the states ?

Read ALL the fine print in the GM warranty. If it's going into a stock application, then it's tough to beat. However, if you are installing this 4L80E into a non-stock application, then the warranty is null and void. :yikes:

When I had to make this choice, I put in the GM part.

(That was 145,000 miles ago.... and I'm still happy).

PS> I change my tranny fluid EVERY 30,000 miles. The cost of that replacement was enough to make me maintain this one.
