is the np205 from the th400 and the 4l804 the same style case w/ diffent adaptors between them? thanks

Assuming it's an 85+ model case with the round bolt pattern, yes the 205 is the same.
Also, the 4L80e/205 and 400/205 adapters are almost identical. To fit a 4L80e a 400/205 adapter will need an o-ring groove added and I believe part of the mounting flange on the trans side will have to be ground off to clear the trans case.
Search for this in the Garage forum, this conversion has been done before.
