4l80e question

My 4l80e suddenly started puking fluid out of the rear. I dropped the pan and replaced gasket. Helped a little but not much. Removed tcase and adapters to expose rear of tranny. There is a quarter inch hole located at the six o clock position that is open. Is this correct? Yes, I have the hole at 3oclo3oclock plugged off. Thoughts and ideas?

I think these are ATF return holes. Is there a large seal around this whole area?

Looks right but I don't recall one on the top. But if atf was allowed in this area it would also allow the adapter to fill with fluid also. That doesn't seem right. ...
