Got a 4L80E from the junk yard out of a 1999 to replace the one in my Blazer. The one in my Blazer is from a 1995. The 1995 trans had both speed sensors in the transmission.

The trans from the 1999 only has one, and a plug that you can pull out where the other one would be. I know the second sensor was in the tcase.

I know I can pull the plug out and put my sensor in there, however is there actually something in there for the sensor to read. The only reason I would think there would be is they would not have a tcase for the second sensor on a 2 wheel drive, but we all know GM has done wierd stuff.

I'm not sure if there is something behind the plug or not. But from what I've read the computer uses both of the sensors to determine if the tranny is slipping and if so puts the trans into some sort of "safe mode"(my words) to prevent damage.

I know this didn't help or answer your question.
