Help! My wife just called and the supposedly rebuilt 4L80E I put in my '90 V2500 went out on the side of the highway near Amarillo.

I found two used ones near there. One is from a '95 6.5 Diesel, the other is from a '98 Z-71.

Here's the question: is there any difference between the 4L80E transmissions in a '91 gas Suburban (my donor) and a '95 Diesel truck or a '98 gas truck?

TQ converter in the 95 is wrong and unless the wiring harness on the truck has been updated to the 93 & up it will need to be updated for either of the transmissions to work. Easy to do, cut off old one and follow directions to replace w/the new.
The plug is on the connector on the drivers rear of the trans w/a bunch of wires in it. Not to be confused with the speed sensor.

A Z71 never came with the 4l80e. And 1996 newer trans cooler lines will be in the wrong place on the case.

I thought that sounded wrong (aren't all Z71's half-tons?).

It doesn't matter anyway. I had her towed to a transmission shop and it turns out the t-case blew up. They're gonna rebuild it and have her back on the road by the end of the day today for a $1300 estimate!!

What sucks is I have a spare t-case here at the house, but I'm 500 miles away.

Oh well, wife & kids are stranded on the way to see family for Thanksgiving. I guess I have to suck it up and pay up.
