4l80e

Aw shoot. Avery, my advice for anybody lusting for "which fullsize GM", get a shotgun ride. The long wheelbase trucks are sweet for the highway, can haul your plywood and studs when you remodel/build your house, you can live in it, etc. So what if its a little bit more FUN:haha: on the trails.
ROADNOT the BURBARIAN(*dleroy43).

Personally, I enjoy taking my half-ton and making a one of a kind rig, just the way I want. It will be more expensive, but im a hands-on kinda guy, so my half-ton with the mods I have and then im going to get the 4l80e. Something has to be said for a guy that can do that.

By the way, this is post 1000!!!
I would like to thank my uncle, who owns a junkyard, and summit racing for making all my dreams come true... lol

Ill be running one in a gew months but the compushift controller is like 1000-1100 so I will be running the TCI controller
I just sold a TCI, never used it and never wanted to after learning about Comushift. I've spent quite a lot of time on the phone with Mike there and in my mind there is no other way to go and well worth the money.

P.s. get the digital dispaly/control!

Crossover steering is something GM could have put on those 1-ton K5 trucks (that they never produced), or any of the SFA trucks, even the 1-tons. Not only for better off-roadability in heavy flex situations, but also for on-road improvement in the bump-steer department.

Factory hydro assist would also have been good, and with a big enough pump to retain quick steering.

At any rate, you can always buy a K5 that has 1-ton running gear, an EFI 454, crossover and hydro assist, a full cage, and a whole lot of other great stuff that somebody else poured their BS&T into, and will sell you for about $5-8K. Here is an example of a sweet deal that I considered driving 500 miles to scope out:

(I think he may have sold it)

I can't even tell you how many times I looked at that to see who was lucky enough to get it. Something that I think about all the time is what I want to do now and what my plans are for the future. Right now being that I'm 17, live at home and don't really want to start building a full shop full of tools and a place to tear apart a truck because I'm heading off for years and years of college is something to keep in mind. Basically what I'm saying is right now I wouldn't be too prideful to buy a truck well on it's way where as when I'm living on my own with my shop I would just build it myself.

That blazer was a steal at that price!

Roadnotca: I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

neverendingproject: that's very true but keep in mind what I said above, hard to gulp but it's the facts.

BajaBlazer: that's how I feel about my 1/2 ton stuff. To make it trail worthy I wouldn't be able to drive it on road anymore (Kalifornia hates me and I found out about some visual inspection laws regarding running gear) which would mean that I'd have to have 2 vehicles and that just isn't an option right now. I'd be better off getting a rig that comes factory with what I want, adding gears, lift, rims/tires, and then having fun.

"Shotgun" comes from stagecoach days but it means ride along with someone else in their rig to see how the different models and powertrain combinations work.:D

Ok, I re-read it and saw what you were saying. That's true but all the guys I know run Jeeps. There is an off-road club at my church with tons of guys but they all have Tj's, Yj's and Land Cruisers.

screw what 1Ton says. its your truck, you like it, build it the way you want to. personally, i'd rebuild the trans thats in the truck, regear it properly, and have a blast with it. with the proper gears, the 700R4 will live a long happy life.

That's what I've been saying from the get go but everyone keeps on telling me that rebuilding a 2nd generation 700R4 is not worth my time. I think that with proper gearing and my street/sand/mud driving it would live.
