Pulled this from my 1994 K2500 Suburban, so it's a stock 4WD 4L80E. It's the early design with both cooler ports at the front end of the case. The TC that comes with it was new about 5,000 miles ago.

It worked when pulled but I felt it was getting tired because it would occasionally go to safe mode under heavy load, so I'm selling as a rebuildable core.

$300 $250 in Ridgecrest, CA. No shipping.

What is safe mode?

When in safe mode, the trans will only go into 1st and 2nd gears. More importantly, it goes to full line pressure instead of metering it according to load (and shifts like a mofo as a result).

A 4L80E has sensors which detect temperature, input shaft rotational speed, and output shaft rotational speed.

If the temp gets too high or a certain amount of slip is detected between input/output (and probably some other things as well). A leaking internal trans electrical connector is a common cause of false triggers as Upstate indicates...but I believe that this trans is truly approaching rebuild status.

It can't hurt to go into thinking it needs to be rebuilt and finding out it is a minor problem compared to the other way around.

Yup - given that I'm trying to sell it, I'm erring towards conservative.
