Anybody have a picture of the factory setup? I'm converting my 2wd to 4wd and for the life of me can't figure out how the 2 are tied together I think I might be missing a few pieces.

Anxiety caught the best of me on this one.

Found it, can't believe I couldn't figure this out. :doah::haha:

Yup, all good now. I just needed a visual reference and to clear my mind. I have had a ton on it lately and got to a really late start today when I wanted to be blazing through this.

here ya go...the engine crossmember is different, I have an ORD unit for mine...you need the engine towers from a 4x4, they're different. Got mine from a member here.

I'm looking into converting a 2wd short box pickup or 2wd blazer (both 1980) into 4wd, looks like both of you are in the process of doing a similar build. Do either of you have a build thread with pics, you could link me two? Are the frames the same 2-4wd and are the holes for the front shackles and 4wd cross member already there? Thinking of using the ORD member so I don't have to spread the rails how do I attach the stabilizer bar, to the 2wd frame?

I haven't done mine yet but in the next few days I plan on attacking this.

The frames are different but can be adapted to work.

You will have to drill all new holes and a hole for the rear leaf bushing. As far as attaching the sway bar you have to swap out the cross member I believe.

Check out this link for a detailed description on the process.

For some reason I thought the 4wd mounts bolted directly into a 2wd frame. Nothing matches up on this swap... Now I see why people say it's not worth it.:doah:

sorry I've been missing this thread....

I have a diagram that's posted on the site somewhere...the rear shackle hole in the fame is 1191mm (46.88") back from the center of the front spring mount.

here's the diagram.

and here's a good thread on a conversion. clicky

I believe there is 1 hole in the frame for the rear spring hanger. Find some one with a 4x for exact placement

it's a hassle, but in my case I have a truck I like, and just happen to have all the components for a swap. They fell off my ex's truck...:thumb:

Just need a set of front springs then I can start the process.

the engine crossmember is totally different. That's why I'm using the ORD unit...

check the build link in my previous post...clarified a lot of things for me & my project.
