I'm currently working on a 1985 K10. MD8 (700r4) I am trying to figure out the 4wd relay that is missing out of my truck. The connector is hanging under my dash but I can't find the relay anywhere. I assume a PO removed it. The rest of my wiring is correct & identical to my wiring schematic -just missing the actual 4wd relay. Can someone tell me the exact location it should be under my dash & where I could buy one? I've tried searching part stores for "4wd relays" but have come up empty.

Let me do some looking around...

Just saw your post on the other site. I have never heard of these until now.
I will do research. This has my interest piqued...

I can't find squat. I'll check my 86 tomorrow. I couldn't tell much in the dark with just my flashlight.
I had to park it about 5 years ago when my 700r4 died...
I'll pull the gauge cluster and see.

The only thing I am aware of is the 4-wheel drive indicator switch, which is screwed into the transfer case itself.

Found the vacuum switch. Cannot locate that connector in my rig.

My thought, is that this relay kills the signal to the lock up torque convertor, when in 4wd. My guess is that without this relay, your convertor lockup isn't working even in 2wd.

I ran it down at a parts store. I initally was having problem finding a relay that was "normally closed" with the specific connector type -like what is in the wiring diagram. Then it hit me I could use a 5 pin connector. One pin in the connector is blank so it didn't matter. The 5 pin relay is "normally closed" on a pin and "normally open" on a pin. Luckly it lined up with my connector. _If it hadn't I was just going to shuffle the pins around on the connector. -
