I always thought Petersons (4wheel and off road) would be the last one standing. Not surprising that these are going away but I hope they maintain a solid online presence. I quit buying the mags because most of the cool trucks were online anyway. I now subscribe to motor trend channel instead. End of an era here.
I remember when my dad brought home a few issues when I was 12. He wanted to lift his Jeep and back then you had to buy the magazine to get the adds on the last 3 pages. It was the only way to find the cool parts back then and request a catalog.

I'm surprised it took them so long. This was 5-8 years too late if you ask me. Motor Trend needs to put more efforts into their App and start having each one of their shows/series put out more videos a month. That's the one beef I have with their app is the couple of series I really like to watch, you only get a video or two a month, at best (and I'm not counting those dumb "Extras", I mean a real video). Maybe by finally getting rid of the printed magazines, they'll start pushing the videos more.

In general, I'm not real surprised to see magazines get shut down since a lot of the content can be seen online (a lot of times before the magazine prints). Imo, magazines could probably have bought themselves more life by holding out of some of the meaty articles for print only or at least show in print first.

I’m actually sad. I prefer the old fashioned way.

I still subscribe to 4-5 mags per month. Although one of them just died so now I’ll be curious to see how that goes.

I’m honestly getting burned out on the shows. There’s way too much Tom foolery to entertain idiots vs actual tech for people that understand what they’re talking about.

I agree, the next wave of shows needs to be tech heavy. There are plenty of shows for rookies, I want the next level of info and fabrication.

Have you seen the new Ultimate Adventure series from Alaska? Motor Trend took over the filming and editing (from what I heard) and it was very disappointing.

Another reasons to tell the little lady why I have to keep those old 4wdrive mags. They're collectable now.
To bad but I don't even look to them for answers anymore. The tech stuff I want to know they always skip over or we took the truck to so and so shop for the install.... I never like the way others modifying my stuff

It’s on my YouTube to watch but I haven’t sat down to them yet.

I remember reading all those Peterson Publishing magazines back in the 70's when I was just a kid in High School. Back then before the Internet I bought all my parts through mail-order. A company called PAW (Performance Automotive Warehouse) had the biggest add in the back of those mags for performance parts. I built several Chevy V8 engines with there parts.

They always had the cool blower packages for a great price. Lots of bench racing thumbing through those old adds.

I'm bummed they quit them, but honestly, I stopped subscribing years ago. When I was traveling weekly I'd pick up a new magazine at the newsstand in the airport and usually have it read before I hit the ground at my destination. Once I stopped traveling I wasn't buying them at the newsstand anymore.

Tech for our trucks in the magazines was pretty thin anyway. Outside of Jerrod Jones K5 or the UA stepside from a long time ago, not much was really written about. They write about what's popular and selling well. Which happens to be Jeeps and diesel trucks for the most part. So the lack of tech drove me to the web where I found this site and the 67-72 Chevy truck page. I always enjoyed reading Pewe and Friburger's Dirt Every Day adventures way before the web show. Or reading about the Turtle Expedition with the Wescott's, even it if they ditched the Squarebody for a Ford.

This has been coming down the pipeline for a while. Even newspapers are dropping out. In Colorado we lost the Rocky Mountain News more than a few years ago. The 24 hour news cycle and internet making the same stuff available to your phone didn't help either. I'll miss 4-wheel and Off Road, Street Rodder, Car Craft and Super Chevy for sure.

The biggest thing I'll miss is not getting one of my rides featured in one of them. Not that any of my stuff is magazine-worthy at the moment, but the idea was always a dream.

I quit subscribing about 10 years ago when I noticed that they were mostly recycling old tech articles and only adding one new one every few months.
Wasn't worth the money or my time reading through a few magazines to finally read something new.
And as someone mentioned the new articles didn't have much tech, just: we took it this shop and we put this on or did this...
I had already been here for a few years and I started seeing a lot more advanced tech here and it's interactive.
I was subscribed to all the off road magazines and most of the car magazines including motor trend, car craft, popular mechanics, kit car...
RIP
