why does my 4wheel drive light come on and stay on then sometimes flickers in the dash if the 4X4 is not engaged? please help!!!!!

Faulty switch or something is grounding out the circuit. The switch is in the top of the t-case and the wires run up and through the shifter on the floor into the cab. Start by checking the wires. Have someone inside watching the light while you are under, shaking and moving the wires. Key ON engine OFF.

It is a remote possibility that the shift forks are worn and flopping around in the t-case, activating the switch and turning the light on.

exactly
the switch in the T case is the light's ground IIRC and traces along the wires from the floor shifter's light. I pulled all that stuff out when I re-wired my truck, didn't need it. Funny though, they were the only lights that worked on the inside hahaha.

If your truck is a 70's you may have a difficult time finding a switch. They are discontinued. You may need to use the 80's switch and adapt the wiring.

I checked the wiring and the plug they were a little loose but placed it properly and now it only does it off and on as i drive it will come on then fade away.

That sounds like a ground issue, my current Jimmy is the only that has a light that worked so I have never messed with them
