Was there a 4X4 indicator light on the dash for a 85 K5? I realize on the dogleg it tells you what mode of 4WD your in, just wondering if there was a 4X4 idiot light.

Yup! There is a indicator at the bottom left of your speedometer.
If it's not working, it's most likely just the bulb that's broken. If that doesn't help there is a connector on top of the transfercase, check that it's conected properly. Quite easy to spot if you have a bodylift.
