4X4 Steering, Suspension and Driveline: Observations

Great idea! Those images may fade but I'm pretty sure that song is going to bounce around in my head for a while:woot:

What Ive found so far:

*Leaf spring vehicles DO come with Panhard bars
*Panhard bars do NOT need to be "exactly level"
*Panhard bars can be "bent" to prevent obstruction
*Dont cut the factory spring holders off the frame with a torch and not repair it, someone might shoot a video of your Heep one day. :doah:

Typically vehicles with leafs and panhard bars have the spring hangers in the rear with the shackles up front, like Jeep does.

Panhard bar does not need to be level, but does need to match the steering draglink angle and length as close as possible. You will find this on crossover, Y-link steering linkage.

Panhard bar can be bent to avoid obstruction but it's effective angle is measured from mounting point to mounting point in a straight line.

X2 I think you pretty much nailed it there :waytogo:

Btw. I don't know sh*t about jeeps, but doesn't that panhard bar look like an aftermarket thingy.
My guess is that it was installed with the longer shackles, to make it less wobbly :dunno:

Anyway, as I think already has been stated, there are no reasons to install a panhard bar with a stock push-pull steering.

I think you should focus on removal of the blocks, and replacing worn suspension and steering components, and you'll be just fine.

Panhard bars are stock on YJ (leaf sprung) jeeps. Those guys ditch them like we ditch sway bars :haha:
