5.13\'s question...

okay, say I had a 14bff with 4.10 gears, obvisly I would need thick gears. But is there any difference in strength and durability of thick gears versus normal gears? And do thick gears go up to 5.13's? Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Re: 5.13\'s question...

So by your very long and informationable paragraph, I gathered that if I used thick gears, theres nothing different except they are thick? OH! and can they be used with a locker? (i.e. DETROIT)

Re: 5.13\'s question...

Yes, the detroit for the 14 bolt will fit any axle with an open carrier reguardless of ratio.

Re: 5.13\'s question...

HAHA sorry. Correct. They can be used with a locker, Because it uses your existing carrier, doesnt matter fast or slow case, fits both. If its a fast case, then you need thick 5.13s.

Re: 5.13\'s question...

Okay, and also, since I can't use thick gears in a d60, what do I use?

Re: 5.13\'s question...

I'm running a 14b f/f w/ 5.13 and a detroit. If you have an open diff, a detroit for these is only around $350.
As for the 60, if you are going w/ a locker or a posi you'll be getting a new carrier anyway. Just get the 4.56 and up carrier....
Get on ebay for the gears. Iv'e seen 'em go for less than a $100. I got a new (installed but never run) set of richmond's for my 60 for a $125.
Haven't seen any good deal on detroits, but have seen a couple power locs for the 60

Re: 5.13\'s question...

So for the dana 60, I should look for 4.56's and up? And for the 14bff, I can just use thick gears right?

Re: 5.13\'s question...

If you dont want to run thick gears in the front you can get a slow case and thin gears since your getting it all new. and thick gears for the 14b.

Whats a slow case?

A case made for lower gears... in other words, a 4.56 and up case....
