im trying to find the link to the pirate thread for a guy selling a bunch of 5.3's. I've seen it on here before and had it saved.... on my old PC:doah:

or really any good source for them would be appreciated..

I wanted to go 8.1 for my burb:rolleyes: but realistically its 5.3 time:D

money in hand by the end of the week:woot:

I have to say I'd go 6.0 instead. I just got done with a 1200 mile trip pulling 9500lbs in my Silverado with the 6.0 and never felt like I needed more power. I pulled every pass on I80 from just above Sacramento Calif. To Rock springs Wy without dropping below 60. Most times I had to lift my foot because I would look down and see I was speeding while climbing.

thanks for the link:thumb:

I like the idea of the 5.3 because it will never tow more than 1500# across town. and I want to travel in it quite a bit. I will be doing a gear swap at the same time to keep it at about 2k while at 65. I need MPG and drivability more than power. 6.0 would be nice though:waytogo:

its looking like ill be at almost 4k to my door....:eek1: its worth it for the lack of headache and having all accessories maybe.... ill see how my local yard sells them......

I DO have a bunch of you guys builds saved that did harness mods.... that's sounding MUCH cheaper:haha:

yeah mine was around $3500 shipped. not cheap but at least i know it was all done right and i didn't have to do it myself.

I've heard good things about BD Turn-key but give Pacific Fab a call too.

They know their stuff when it comes to LS engine swaps. Complete turn key packages, harness, engines or just parts.

my engine was a BD turn key. had a good experience even though i still haven't fired my engine up yet.

thanks guys:thumb: ill check out pacific fab too.

a quick question though... if I fab or find the right bracket for the tv cable I can still use my 700r4 right.. even with a dbw

Im not sure I can swing a tranny too, unless I do a junkyard engine and mod the harness myself.

Just to answer your initial question, yes you can still use the 700 with a dbw motor. But, you have to do it by making the tv cable go through the firewall and work off the peddle.

would the electronic ones be better though..... they are designed to work with the ls motors.... I know the 4l80e would be much better.... how hard would it be to put one in an 88. with a 208. ill have the money to do it from what it looks like

Easy peasy. The electronic trans has the speed sensors built into it. Remember that the first year 4l80e was in the 1991 suburban. If it can go in a a 91, it can go in a 88.

Only things noteworthy is that the 1991 had a NP241 tcase with the electronic speed sensor and thus an electronic speedo.

I forgot about the 91's:doah: I don't mind the electronic speedo thing... I planned on changing gauges to all mechanical with the motor swap... ill just do the speedo electric. im looking at about $8k to do all of it.

5.3 $4000
4l80e ? $1800
4.11's (if I go 4l80e)
OR 4.30's (if I go with what I got, probly aint happening:whistle:)
and a rear truetrac $2000

so itll probably be more like $10k :doah::haha:

sorta makes me wonder if it would be better to leave my burb as is for now ( runs and drives fine except the gears) and use the $10k to put down on a nice 2000+ 4wd DD of some sort that already has an ls and 4l80e...... :dunno: ive found quite a few that I like

The flip side is, you can have your burb running and driving with a 5.3 in it for no more than $2200-$2500. Keep the current trans, and find some cheap re-geared half ton axles to throw under it for probably no more than about $800.

I want to turn the burb into a reliable travel vehicle that I can use as an expedition sort of vehicle. mild trails and odd places type thing.

ive looked for axles around here forever.... cant find anything:dunno: I think a 5.3 would be better for mpg and such. but I can wait I think:confused: maybe ill get a JY motor and slowly amass the rest of the parts and work on my own harness. I got a few days (1-2) to think it all over before the cash starts eating my pocket away:rolleyes:
