5.3 swap questions??

i have the a/c out of a 90 2500 in my truck right now u think they sell a manifold adapter plate so i can still have a/c, or am i going to have to get creative with the a/c line repair kit at work.

You'll need a pre 04 engine with a throttle cable to use your 700r4 TV cable. Connecting a TV cable on a drive by wire system would be difficult at best.

Actually, if your looking for a Throttle cable setup it is going to be pre 02 trucks. 03+ is drive by wire.
01-02 is what you're after.
I'd go for an 02 personally. 01 engines were the worst year for piston slap, and in 02 they started coating piston skirts to fix the problem.
The only throttle cable setups you will find on an 03 and newer vehicle will be a chevy/gmc Delivery truck or Savanna delivery van.

If you need the computer flashed and the harness reworked, i've done dozens of these things. You can also shoot me any questions you may have.

my cousin is talking me out of this, he is trying to get me to just build up my current engine, what to do, what to do.

the 5.3 as a stock engine is very powerful, to build your current engine to the same specs would cost you a lot more then the 5.3 swap. And being a stock engine you can do a the normal mods to the 5.3 and make it even more powerful

for 1500 i can build up my current engine, to the amount of power i want and save my self a crap ton of time, on the other hand it would be cool to have a 5.3 i dont know.

You also have to take into account the fact that you also get the reliability of fuel injection, coil near plug ignition, Aluminum heads, 6 bolt mains etc

already have the fuel injection, will be buying aluminum heads. motor in my truck is tbi.

ah ok, well the 5.3 is multi port which is better :D

After doing the 5.3 swap i am so impressed by the newer motors and so are the people that wheel with me, there are a few people in the club that i am in that are now working on there own 5.3 swaps because of the way they have seen my truck preform.

The LS based motors are the new 350 in ways of being a widely used engine in swaps and in hot rodding

$1000 for aluminum heads if not more to gain you a whopping 40 HP. There went 2/3s of your budget and you don't have the power of the LS engine. Also, the TBI is nowhere near as tunable or capable of making power as the Gen IIIs system.

i can get the parts discount 1500 is with a new chip, aluminum heads, cam, lifters, roller rockers, new intake, 454 injectors, new fuel pump, a new timing chain, and a few other odd and ends and im am aware of tbi's limits, but i am not looking to build a drag car, just something with respectable power.

but then again im not decided yet, im just weighing pro's and con's

do the 5.3 or 6.0. theres no comparison. I dont think you could ever match the all around power of the gen 3 with a gen 1 TBI, or even get close .

If I had 2 grand to play with for an engine swap it would be to a 5.3, hands down, unless an LS6 454 out of a chevelle magicly fell out of the sky.

heres my big hang up, just did the tbi swap last year which meant i put in a whole engine/fuel system/wiring/exhaust/had the tranny rebuilt/made the new serpentine work with that a/c, and that ps pump. that is my one thing holding me back, i mean everything on the truck right now is close to new/rebuilt. and if i were to do the swap i would be using the newer trans cause making the old one work just doesnt seem right when u can have the computer controlled one

Im sure there are plenty of people who would buy whatever is replaced by doing the swap.

that'd be cool, my boss is leaving for the 3rd week in april so what ever way i go i need to find/get the crap before then cause i can use the shop that week and thats way better than doing it in my garage.

if u could go back would u do the 6.0 or the 5.3?

Have you guys come across any all aluminum 5.3's cheap yet? It has been a while since I looked around, but I am guess they are still somewhat rare and expensive.
