I would first advise you to search for your answers on here and google. The short answer to your question is, yes, it can be kept. But there are some if's. You must use an older drive by cable style throttle body and you will have to use a spacer on your flex plate.

Yes it can be done, no it is not worth it.
Has to be Drive By Cable, then adapter for TV cable, there's also flexplate, spacer, adapter... and even then it won't last or shift right.
