I am not looking for a greaseable/non-greaseable debate..that has been done:D I am looking for real world experience with the sealed Spicers. I am back up here in the Pac Northwest where it is wet and muddy much of the year with puddles on the trail. How do they hold up in these conditions? Thanks for any input!
 
They will work just fine. Better than the greasables. The greasables have a pretty cheesey seal, they mostly rely on you greasing them to purge out whatever crap gets in. The 806's have a pretty robust seal- If you pull a cap off and look inside, you can see it. The seal actually occupies alittle of the space inisde the cap where the needle bearings are- You'll notice that greaseables have much longer needle bearings. It (the seal) can also be popped out in much the same manner as a wheel seal. Built the same way- seperate steel body with the actual rubber seal, that fits tightly inside the cap. Nothing gets in, nothing gets out. :wink1:
 
lol, two answers so far...from a Cali d00d and an AZ d00d. :haha:

I run greasables up here, and haven't had any trouble with em. The only sealed U-joints I had were in my old D44 and they lasted less than a year. They didn't break, but they didn't keep the water out either.

The problem up here isn't just the trail conditions being wet, it's the daily driving that contributes as well. At least it did in my case because it was my DD as well.

I may try the sealed U-joints next time I need them, but for the mean time I'll keep pumping a shot or two of grease into em after wheeling and be sure.

:D Thanks Rene. I know Joe ran some deep water and mud in his truggy even though he's a Cali guy. Fred may have went through a puddle or something down there:wink1:

lol, I may be from Cali, but I'm from the wet part. :haha:

When I left to come to Virginia, I left 18" of snow behind. :wink1:

Most oem's use the sealed units. I know for a fact Ford uses them in the super duty driveshafts. I took ALOT of those apart when I worked for Jesse. No matter how old the shaft was, there was always grease in the caps.
 
Hmmm not sure. Same price either way. Rene are the greaseables a PITA to get too in the knuckle there? I use a needle tip for all my driveline joints

I run the Greasable Spicer 5-733X with no problems. I drive lots of mud and water, grease 'em after every outing and they are good. Easy to access also. I think my last set was good for 5yrs (even with some neglect on my part). I bought an 18v electric grease gun and it's a breeze to lube everything after watery/muddy day. Strength wise they have never given me a problem and I run a 454 with 39.5" TSL on a K30 pickup. I prefer greasables.
