If you've got the ever so common problem of a grooved axle from where the bearing rides there is a "repair bearing" that basically moves the location of where the bearing rides on the axle (they used to be called buddy bearings). A new or otherwise different axle would be your best bet BUT if you can't find one then you might decide to look into the bearing I speak of.
Not sure if you have a crankshaft grinder near you but the one I used to always use is capable of welding the shaft up and then regrinding it to the proper size again (IIRC he charges like 75.00).
