Been searching a lot about these...read a lot about 40s and even 70s, havent found much about the 50s. Im going to be running hedmans with 2.25 duals. (i know 3" single is better, but this is what i am going to do.)
Appreciate feedback on how these sound. I do a lot of highway trips, dont want drone headache but still want good sound. The flowmaster website sounds dont really help.

When I first got my blazer back in 05' the exhaust was rotted off at the muffler, so I put a FlowMaster cat back in it, and the muffler was a 50 series. I liked it, not as deep as a 40 series, but still sounded great. Interior resonance was minimum, and I think you heard the motor more than anything.

i had 2 50 series in 2.5 inch with headers and a stock 350, they sound good and have the flowmaster sound but are real quiet since they are 3 chamber mufflers.

I like the way the 40 series sound better than the 50s for a small block Chevy. They have more rumble to them. The 50 series is defianately more "Flowmaster" sounding to me - more like a Mustang or something.

I ran a 50 series on my 94 blazer with 350tbi. Stock manifolds, single in/dual out 50 series flow. It sounded AWESOME. My favorite sounding truck ever.

Thanks for the input...I was kind of worried the 50s would be too quiet with the 2.25 pipes. But from what Ive searched that the 2.25 would be better to run than the 2.5. Although I do plan on on a mild engine rebuild in the future.....probably end up with 290-300 horse...man this is addicting

I have 40series now and will probably switch to the 50s, Im over the loudness, lol.

I had dual 50's and they were plenty loud. I switched them out for a quieter one since it's used on the freeway alot at higher rpm's.

Mine was loud when it needed to be, but didnt' bother me one the freeway. My truck was stock though, and cruised at 70 at 2000rpms.

had 40's on truck nice sweet sound.

then 3.5 years worth of salt/rain later rusted out. got 50 and same basic sound outside but much better inside. less droan/harmonics.

If you don't mind some input besides Flowmasters, I really love the Spintech muffler I have now. I've run Summit turbo mufflers, Cherry Bombs, Magnaflows, Flowmaster Super 40's, and Full Boar mufflers. By far the Spintechs are the best for aggressive sound without the head throbbing resonance.

I recorded some videos of the sound:

They would also be extremely difficult to damage in a wheelin' rig.

single 3" is "adequate" for a stock motor setup..

personally i would run at LEAST a 2.5" pipe, nothing smaller, the sound from those smaller pipes is just too annoying for me personally.

I had a 3 chamber 50 series for awhile, single setup, sounded real nice, not to loud at any speed, i even took the tailpipe off because that quieted the sound down alittle too much for me.

Have a temporary true dual setup with 2.5" all the way, no Cats and 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra mufflers, sounds different, made the mistake again with the tailpipes though.

Hey Klink. What part of NV. are you from? Cattle? Mining? 190 ton? dump in your PIC.? Looks like you are in my back yard.
I run 70 series flow on my k5. Single 3" with a dump before the rear axle. Sounds good.

Who told you single exhaust would be better?
Not so.
TBI loves single 3" exhaust. Better all around performance than dual.

Mining . Help with the cows on my days off. Thats a 240 ton truck.

What size y pipe do you have? The reason for the dual was to get rid of it. I am going to lift some more in the future and it just seems to be in the way. Plus the biggest Ive seen is 2.5 y. Thats not really a true 3 in exhaust?
