Ok, I have done this swap before but I am hoping someone can help me with this. This time I will be installing a 454 vortec/4l80 also. How will this effect the springs? Too much weight? Reconditioning the spring packs now and was thinking maybe I should add another leaf in them.....they have four leaves at at the moment (I removed the bottom overload one so it won't catch on stuff) what are your guys thoughts/experiences with this set up? I Have no other lift in the front and will be running 38.5 swampers. I did this before and it was fine after fender trimming but that was with SBC 350/700r4 set up.

Fwiw, I'm running 2.5" lift 52's with a 454, 4spd and doubler, my lift measures correct so my springs (albeit aftermarket) aren't sagging under the weight.

Mine are just recycled ones from the rear of another blazer

I have no experience to relate, but I believe that guys have said that 52's can get used up in a year of hard wheeling. I would assume that any increase in weight could help that more. But it could be different for each person and what condition of the used springs.
It may be something that you have to try?

IMO it depends on the spring pack you get. If you get a later 80's into the early 90's blazers, their rear springs were a much better spring rate than the early to mid 80's. So if the OP get's a set from those years, I think he would be totally fine with a 454/4l80e. But what I would do is get the build rocking with the current springs you have, and if you find later that you want/need some 52's that are a better spring rate....well changing front springs is an afternoon project and pretty easy

You hit the nail on the head. It's an open chassis at the moment and so much more pleasurable to work on like this! :-) :-) springs are from a 79 blazer

keep in mind you're only talking another 150sh pounds of engine. That could be the same thing as 350 setup with a winch/winch bumper. Are you going to run an offset block (zero rate or EZ-inch) and push the axle forward?

I run 2" lift 52's springs with the BBC, A-bomb and a 12K winch.
